At last! It’s that time of year when Hollywood gets all masturbatory – that is, even more so than usual. It’s awards season! The Golden Globes kicked off the season this past Sunday and some of us here on Crazytown had fun live tweeting the event using the hashtag #ctownglobes. A live tweet session is a really fun way to provide and read commentary on an event in real-time. Since most of us here on Crazytown are passionate about the arts including film and television (film not so much for me, but I watch more television than should be legal) this felt like an excellent opportunity to provide our own brand of insight, sarcasm, and wit. Some samples of #ctownglobes tweets from Sunday:
The second Gyllenhaal appeared onstage, I knew this tweet was coming.
Apparently we here at C-town are all horny as hell.
This would be my attempt at an "insightful" tweet.
Loren gets bonus points for this one because there were a lot of shows & films at the Globes in strange categories. My Week With Marilyn is not a comedy. I suspect they were counting it as a musical, which is pretty weak.
Seriously. Clooney just doesn't age.
I love award shows. I’m not sure why, but I just eat them up. The glamour, the fashion, the stars…I’ve loved them since I was a kid. But now with the advent of social media we can express our opinions to friends and followers as the shows happen (and if you know me, you know I have a lot of opinions) and to a wider audience than the people present at your viewing party.
Is this a good or bad thing? What does it say about us that we want everyone out there to know every thought passing through our heads as they happen? [Insert generic and condescending question about the deeper emotional meaning regarding the need to always be heard and validated here]? Who the fuck cares!? It’s fun!
I hope we’ll have the opportunity to do some more Crazytown live tweeting for the other award shows coming up this season, and if we do, I hope you’ll tune in. In the meantime, (shameless plug warning) you should all follow me at @GJRoseman.
