By Gregory Jacobs-Roseman (Composer-Lyricist)
So, I'm writing this post on Valentine's Day in blatant disregard for my Sunday deadline to submit my posts. Apologies to my editors. However, if it hadn't been for my tardiness I wouldn't be able to share this amazing video with you.
It's been a pretty amazing month for marriage equality in the United States as Tony pointed out yesterday. The 9th Circuit ruled that Prop 8 in California was unconstitutional and violated the equal protection clause in section one of the 14th amendment. In New Jersey, the state senate has now passed a bill to legalize same sex marriage and the state assembly is poised to pass the same bill this week, even though Governor Chris Christie has vowed to veto it and called for a public referendum (yeah, because civil rights should always be left up to the people. If that were the case, women and African Americans would still not be allowed to vote). And this past Monday, Washington state became the 7th state to legalize gay marriage. Truly a huge amount of progress this month.
With all that politics and Valentine's as a backdrop, I was sent one of the most heartwarming pro-gay marriage videos today and had to share it with you all. Remember that beautiful Australian marriage equality video from a few months ago? Well, now the Italians are at it, and it just makes my heart a-flutter:
Something about the Italian language just makes me swoon. To quote Hair, I believe in love. I also believe that we will see universal marriage equality in this country sooner rather than later.
