Check out the new production of "Into the Woods" BEFORE it comes to the Delacorte!
By Kevin Michael Murphy(Actor-Voice Teacher)
"Into the Woods" will always hold a special place in my heart for 3 reasons.
- My decision to attend James Madison University was based entirely on how awesome their 2000 production of "Into the Woods" was.
- Who doesn't love Joanna Gleason's performance in the original production?
- I was born to play the role of "The Steward."
Here is a picture of me as The Steward in the 2006 NYU production at the Skirball Center. Notice the butt chin, pronounced mole, and look as if I permanently smell shit. Although "The Steward" only has about 13 lines, I delivered each one with the verve and sardonic dryness of a young Bea Arthur.
While I wait to age into the role of "The Steward," I can do nothing but get excited about upcoming revivals, like the one coming to the Delacorte Theater in Central Park this summer!
This Olivier Award winning production was originally stage in Regents Park in London back in 2010. In this production, the Narrator is played by a little boy. The action takes place in his imagination. He then falls asleep and Act 2 is his nightmare. Interesting right?
