What happens when you take the infamous story of Lizzie Borden, add rock & roll, and stir
By Joanna Syiek (Director/Producer/Blogger)
This four-person powerhouse musical has been looping in my head all weekend, so I thought it was about time I passed it along so you could begin your obsession too.
Based on the most notorious “unsolved” murder case of the 1800s, this Cheslik-DeMeyer, Hewitt and Maner tuner will be getting a treatment in the upcoming Village Theatre’s Festival of New Musicals (where both Next to Normal and Million Dollar Quartet were developed before their successful Broadway stints). Here’s hoping Lizzie Borden can follow a similar route.
New girl-crushes commencing in 3, 2, 1...
Reasons why this montage from a recent Cleveland production might rock your world a little:
Lizzie ________ Borden. Who knew that the real life Borden had such intense daddy-issues?
Look at what they’re wearing. Uptight Victorian dresses devolve into Versace-inspired rock wear. Leather, lace and tulle give this 19th century retelling a vicious bite.
Look ma! No Men. They effectively tell the entire story employing only female characters – Lizzie Borden, her sister Emma, the housemaid and the girl-next-door/maybe-secret-lover.
You will never think of hairspray cans in the same way again. Brilliant take on Borden burning up an old dress, one of the pieces of potential evidence.
Four ladies fierce screlting their faces off. Enough said

Pretty incredible, right? And the Lizzie in this clip is now in NY I believe so we'll see what happens. I'm crossing my fingers for this show.
