A Commercial that would make SNL Proud... By Gena Oppenheim (Writer)
This election cycle it seems political realities have
become even more blurred then Tina Fey and Sarah Palin. In fact, fake Saturday Night Live commercials are looking like works by Godard compared to the recent opus' presented by those entities known as SuperPacs. Case in point, a recent ad that the (insert clear throat sound) “Campaign for American Values” or "CAV" presented during the RNC entitled “A New Morning.” In the commercial a woman makes a
super frowny face to let us know she is a worried President Obama is “forcing gay marriage” on unwitting citizens. She even throws down her paper to let us know she means business. The final hook, after her husband gently
consoles her with an acting technique that revolves around a lot of head nodding,
is that gay marriage is “Not the change I voted for.”
As the Huffington post noted, the real crime of the video is not that, “President Obama is now in line with how more and more people feel about marriage. It’s that this woman is wearing a hideous blouse and no makeup when she knew she’d be on television. Clearly the gay stylist on this shoot was exacting a small measure of revenge.”
