What the next presidential speech might look like if constructed from only song titles
By Joanna Syiek (Director/Producer/Blogger)
As evidenced by his speech last week, the President has plenty of awesome writers on hand. But just in case he finds himself in a room at a Broadway Cares: Equity Fights AIDS fundraiser over the next couple of months, here’s a little something to keep in the back pocket. Mr. Pres - the next time you need a speech littered with references to musical theatre hits from the last 50 years, you know who to call.
Hello!
*Applause*
Her or me?
*Endless Applause*
You must meet my wife.
*outpouring of cheers as Barack offers a hand toward Michelle, and she waves her perfectly sculpted arm*
Please Hello!
*eventual slow of applause*
Ladies and gentlemen, a toast!
Summer nights, autumn, spring, I was here. Days like this, I’m still here.
What does a man do when it’s time to be a captain? Give them what they want. Here I am.
Who Am I? Someone like you.
I know where I’ve been. If I were a rich man, and the money kept rolling in, it would have been wonderful - how the other half lives. As for the other side of this life, some people are still hurting.
I know things now: you gotta have heart and nothing is too wonderful to be true.
Another hundred people are getting married today. But two ladies? Jimmy and his boyfriend Tom, Dick, or Harry? A man of no importance would call them two nobodies in New York. I say, marry the man today. Sue me. It takes two and everybody’s got the right.
No more “your fault,” “I’m not waiting,” “I want the good times back.” It’s easy to be hard. Some say we got more than we bargained for; I should tell you: we’re okay.
Remember, it’s you I like. Could I leave you? Not for the life of me. At the end of the day, I’m nothing without you.
We can do it.
It won’t be long now ‘til we reach that day.
If you want me, say it somehow. That’s all I ask of you.
Goodnight and thank you!
Got 'em all? Breakdown after the jump.
