The Dark Knight Gets His Butterfly On By Gena Oppenheim (Writer)
This summer, after a full day with some kiddos at the
Natural History Museum, we decided the sensible
way to end the day was in
the Butterfly Room. If you haven’t experienced it yet, let’s just say it’s a
tiny room that’s about 100 degrees and features every species of butterfly ever
flying around a tropically themed room. It is also, possibly, the only exhibit where, before you exit, a docent instructs you to check inside your shirt to make sure you’re not
taking an “artifact” home with me.
While ooing and ahhing an Owl Butterfly a little boy turned to
me and loudly stated, "Batman's
here!" I
gently insisted that bats were a different species, and pointed at the
lovely Swallowtail. The little boy then insisted, “Bat….man is here!” I was
about to have a talk with him about “real and pretend” when the gentleman in
front of us turned around and said hello. It was Batman, in the
form of Christian Bale.
