SNL added several new cast members from Second City this year, but the stand out newbie is a transfer from LOGO.

Technically Kate McKinnon joined the cast of SNL at the end of last season, but it's only in the last two weeks that she's shown that she is the newest, brightest, funniest, wittiest, most hilarious star on the show, and possibly the saviour of this season.
What makes Kate McKinnon different is the fact that she is NOTHING like any of the other stars currently filling our Sunday Hulu brunches.
Let's be honest... who actually watches it on Saturday night?
Her humor is more in line with the early 90's SNL humor of Chris Farley and Dana Carvey, and I am LIVING for it this afternoon. So much so, that I took to the bloggosphere to share my enthusiasm.
If you're not familiar with Kate's work, you should look up the BIG GAY SKETCH SHOW, a SNL-type show with Rosie O'Donnel and Colman Domingo that aired from 2006 to 2010 on the LOGO network.
To be honest, THE BIG GAY SKETCH SHOW was not that funny, but doing it for four years kinda makes Kate a pro compared to her fellow SNL newbies. She's had four years of bad sketch comedy to learn from her mistakes, and we, the SNL watchers of the universe can thank LOGO, and Lorne Michaels for bringing her to us.
In case your'e wondering, and I know you are, Kate studied Improv at Upright Citizens Brigade.
If you haven't been watching SNL, here are a few of her funny skits... ENJOY!
(As THE LONG ISLAND MEDIUM)
(As Ellen Degeneres and Jodie Foster)
(As Cecila Gimenez)
(As Ann Romney)
Can't wait to see what kind or original zany characters she conjures up this season! I know I will be watching with anticipation.DAVID DAVILA is half of the song-writing duo Havrilla & Davila, author of the Tex-Mex plays ADAN Y JULIO, MEN OF GOD, CREDO, REQUERDOS OF MY LIFE, and AZTEC PIRATES AND THE INSIGNIFICANCE OF LIFE ON MARS. You are so right...in one night, she made my SNL experience light years better than it has been in a while. I'm still waiting for Seth to either (a) retire [I just don't get his brand of humor], or (b) get a co-anchor for Weekend Update, and then we'll be on the right track.
