A new Best TV Kiss has just been added to our collective conciousness. It's important to recognize its importance and also look back at its predecessors.

If you watch as much tv as I do, you know that something momentous happened in just the last couple of weeks, and no, I'm not talking about the premiere of Smash. I'm not talking about that thing that happened on Downton Abbey (which I don't watch, so I don't know), or the coke episode of Girls or even the fact that Robin Roberts is coming back to Good Morning America. No, I'm talking about adding a new Best TV Kiss to the list of our favorites. The kiss between Jess and Nick on New Girl was so amazing, so perfect, so wonderfully unexpected, that for me it jumped to the top of my top TV kisses.
So here are my top three:
Pam and Jim, The Office, Episode: Casino Night
Remember when the reason you watched the office was to see the sexual tension between Pam and Jim? Before the days of Brian the Sound Guy and their two kids and real life. There was just crazy chemistry and a lot of anticipation. Until we got our pay off. After a crazy Casino Night in the warehouse Jim confesses his love for Pam and she is scared of what that means for their friendship. So instead of saying it back, she goes to the office and calls her mom to talk about how much she loves Jim (which I think is amazing and so something I would do!). Jim comes in and just grabs her and kisses her and then the season ends! BRILLIANT!
The classic "will they-won't they" for my generation. We grew up after Cheers so Ross and Rachel are our Sam and Diane. We watched them miss each other for a season and a half before finally confessing how they feel. After some drunken antics and a near miss with a cat, of course. I love this kiss because we felt like we had been waiting so long for it, it happens after a huge fight, and its in the rain! I literally remember watching this with my sister and jumping up and down on my parents bed we were so excited!
1. Nick and Jess, New Girl, Cooler
For the record, I watched Cooler 4 times in the week after the show aired. I couldn't get enough of the episode and of course, the kiss. First, the episode includes a game of True American, which is the best drinking game we've never played before. Also, what's great about this kiss is that it really seems like neither Jess nor Nick are actually prepared for it. We as the audience have been watching them dance around their feelings, but they really seem to take the characters by surprise. And DAMN! What a kiss!
For me, the best TV kisses happen in the last two minutes of the episode, leaving us desperate for resolution but with none. They make me squeal like a little girl and bounce up and down on my couch. I remember watching these episodes over and over to recapture that excitement and vicarious thrill (even as I watched them this morning). Even if there is no immediate pay off, which there wasn't on Friends or The Office, and things aren't looking good for New Girl, at least we were given a little something to reward our loyalty.

Thank you! Thank you so much for including the Cooler episode! A lot of my friends have fallen behind on New Girl and when I watched the episode I had no one to freak out about it with. Nobody seemed to have the same scream-out-loud, jump-out-of-the-seat reaction that I did and I had wondered if I was just weird to be so emotionally invested in a tv kiss. Also - Ross and Rachel own my heart forever.

Yes! New Girl really had a nice moment there. A friend and I were trying to think of the last time we were that taken by a moment like that, so this is the perfect post. I would only add this gem from Parks & Rec: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-Lh-CScXMg
