Among all the shades of life, there is always one we like best.
By Julien Lecanu.
The title struck me. Then the color did : Blue. On the cover of Le Bleu est une couleur chaude (Blue is the warmest color in english), a French graphic novel that recently got adapted as a movie telling the touching story of two women falling in lover and eventually sharing a life together, you're magically drawn to the back of an androgynous figure with blue hair cascading on her shoulders. Her head is slightly turned to the reader, the smile on her face keeps all the mystery alive. Looking at this almost grey picture, you wonder : "How did I not see before how warm a color blue is? Red seems almost boring now."
As much as I would like to praise Julie Maroh for her outstanding work, I don't think there is much to say. It is incredible and reading it is the only way to truly connect to it. When I discovered it a few years ago, it changed me. It might change you as well. Do not miss it! And if you have the opportunity to catch the movie as well, it will be some well-spent dollars. That is pretty much everything I wanted to say. So here, let me give you some other reasons to love blue a little more. (And yes, this is an actual attempt to reveal my identity as a 8-years-old-18-years-old-who-still-says-he-has-a-favorite-color. Yay blue.)
Next week, I'll finally post about something that brings us all together here. Musicals. But the French ones! You'd better get ready for some catchy tunes!
